What is Pragmatics?

Other philosophers who developed pragmatist concepts in the early 1900s were George Herbert Mead and W.E.B Du Bois, who developed pragmatist perspectives upon social science and the study of race relations; Alain Locke, who created pragmatist views on the structure of science and education; and John Dewey, who articulated pragmatic ideas in the areas of public policy education, democracy, and the public sector.

Presently, pragmatism is influencing the design of educational programs, curriculums and other technological and scientific applications. There are also a variety of pragmatic philosophical movements like neopragmatism and classical pragmatism, and others. There are also computational and formal pragmatics, game theory, theoretical clinical, experimental and neuropragmatics, as well as intercultural and interlinguistic pragmatics among others.

He also acknowledges that pragmatism does not necessarily reject religion and that religious beliefs may be legitimate for those who adhere to them.

John Dewey (1859-1952) was a key figure in the pragmatists of classical times.
